Tell us about yourself!
Hello beautiful Tone It Up team!! I am from a small town in Pennsylvania called Kutztown, about an hour out from Philadelphia but I’m a Florida girl at heart! I am a Family Resource Specialist working as a caseworker to help families with open Children and Youth Services cases. It is a challenging, but fulfilling job. I’m in Graduate School to become a school counselor, so two days a week I intern at a middle school. I also just started a business with a friend where we dress as princesses for birthday parties and events! I love it! If all of that doesn’t keep me busy enough, I am also planning my wedding!!
Your transformation story is amazing. How long was it between your before and after pics?
I’m still in shock when I look at them! The before pictures are from around winter and spring of 2013 and my after photos are from winter 2014. I dropped 18 pounds and inches everywhere. When I was sized for my wedding dress in February 2014, I was a size 8-10. A few weeks ago, I was sized for a bridesmaids dress for a wedding in April and they sized me as a 2!! My jaw dropped.
What was your biggest inspiration to finally make a change in your life?
I was fed up with how unhappy I was when I looked in the mirror. I was constantly comparing myself to others and knew I needed to change, but didn’t see how. Every previous attempt had failed. Gym memberships, diets, etc. I also had a really terrible mindset about food. I always felt guilty after eating anything and would congratulate myself for skipping meals.
My biggest inspiration to change was my amazing friend Caitlin. She transformed over the years that I knew her and couldn’t believe how amazing she looked. She just seemed happier, like a spark was lit inside of her and was shining out. Her transformation was the game changer for me.
How did you find out about Tone It Up?
The reason I found Tone It Up was all because of Caitlin. On that trip to Texas when I asked her for help, she introduced me to Tone It Up and I was amazed. It made a healthy lifestyle seem so fun and didn’t seem like anything I had seen before. When I got home from that trip, I read every single one of the TIU Success Stories and was so inspired!
Did you have any setbacks along the way?
There were times when my motivation would waver and I would skip a few days in a row, but when this happened I wouldn’t feel good. My energy would be low, I wouldn’t accomplish as much, and it made me unhappy. I also had hip issues in the beginning and I’ve had ongoing issues with back pain. There were days when I just couldn’t workout out. I finally changed my mindset about setbacks and told myself, as long as I remain consistent most of the time, a few slipups with meals and lazy days or bad pain days wouldn’t ruin what I accomplished.
Since getting stronger and staying active, my pain in both areas has been significantly less!!
How has following the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan contributed to your success?
The TIU Plan was an absolutely a game-changer in my fitness process. I initially lost a few pounds when I started running, but I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. Karena and Katrina made me feel that a healthy lifestyle was so amazing! I joined the team a month before the BIKINI SERIES so I would have everything I needed for success.
Once I had the plan in my hands, I wondered why I had waited so long. I love how easy and detailed everything is. The changes in my body were so apparent. I felt so much better! It made me fall in love with eating again. It also made me realize how important it is to fuel my metabolism and body rather than starve it! The plan lays out everything you need to know about a healthy lifestyle. One of my favorite parts is the details about WHY certain foods are good for you and HOW they contribute to making your body healthy.
What are some of your fave healthy foods and snacks?
Can I just tell you how much I love organic raw almonds!? It’s my favorite (and easy) go-to snack! I also love quinoa. It is such a wonderful alternative to rice or pasta and is so good for you. My favorite, easy thing to make are the protein smoothies from the TIU plan. They are all delicious!
My favorite “dessert” are the 3 ingredient cookies, they are yummy and SUPER easy to put together and throw in the oven.
How do you treat yourself while staying on track?
If I’m craving pasta I use an alternative like wheat pasta, spaghetti squash or quinoa pasta! I honestly don’t miss it because the alternatives are so good! Every once in while I treat myself to something not Tone It Up approved, but I consider it my reward for doing so well the majority of the time. You only live once right? It’s all about balance.
What is your workout routine like?
I work out at least 5-6 days a week and hardly ever miss staying active on the weekends. I find weekends to be the BEST days to workout because I have all this extra time to try new things and push myself longer. I usually follow the Tone It Up Weekly Schedule with some other workouts mixed in. I am adamant about never missing two days in a row. Even if it means waking up early the following day or working out late. I make it happen.
What advice would you give someone who needs motivation and encouragement to get healthier?
If you tell yourself you can’t, then you probably won’t. Sometimes it is a matter of mind over matter. Your body is capable of amazing things. If you talk yourself into a workout or tell yourself “I got this!” in the morning, your whole day can change. The more you convince yourself you can, you will! I know this because it was me! We convince ourselves that we will never get there. That’s where you’re wrong, and so was I.
Also, a healthy lifestyle NEVER stops feeling good.
Tell us about your current goals!
I plan on running at least one 10K before my wedding in August. I also really want to focus on the Bridal Edition of the Tone it Up Nutrition Plan closer to my wedding as well! My dress is strapless so I’m motivated to work those arms and back!
