What was your biggest inspiration to finally make a change in your life?
Mason was truly my inspiration for changing my life. Before I got pregnant, I was fairly active and healthy. I promised myself I would continue to take care of my body when I found out I was pregnant, but instead, my pregnancy consisted of absolutely no physical activity and a lot of junk food. I ended up gaining 50 lbs, and tipping the scale at 204 lbs. I was so disappointed in myself after I gave birth, and felt like I had completely let Mason down by not being healthy during my pregnancy. I knew I needed to be a better example of self-control and determination for him. I wanted him to be able to look up to me instead of being disappointed because his mother can’t follow through with what she says.
How long was it between your before and after pics?
There is a year difference between my before and after pics. I gave birth to my son in May of 2013, and I have lost 70 lbs since then.
How did you find out about Tone It Up?
I found out about Tone It Up after watching the first season of Toned Up on Bravo. I thought Karena and Katrina’s friendship was amazing, and they were so positive, fun, and down-to-earth. I decided to check out their YouTube videos and website. I then joined the community and eventually purchased the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan.
How has following the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan contributed to your success?
The Tone It Up Nutrition Plan has completely changed my view of food. It has helped me realize food is fuel for my body (not a reward for doing something well), and healthy food doesn’t have to be bland or taste bad. Before I purchased the plan, I only focused on counting calories, and that was very time-consuming. I love how I don’t have to worry about counting calories on the plan, as long as I listen to my body and eat what the plan maps out.
What are you doing now to keep up with your healthy lifestyle?
I work out 5-6 days per week during my son’s naps, or any other time I can fit it in. I also try to have a Perfect Fit Smoothie every day for lunch and do my best to have a clean dinner. I sit down and plan my workouts and meals for the week every Sunday night. And I also post videos and pictures of my workouts on Instagram and Twitter to help myself stay accountable.
What are some of your favorite healthy foods and snacks?
Right now my favorite healthy snack is Tribe Hummus with Ryvita crackers or sweet peppers. I love plain Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and apples with natural peanut butter. I also am obsessed with the Strawberry-Apple Strudel Bars in the Summer Sizzle Edition of the Tone It Up plan. They are absolutely to die for! Perfect for a sweet tooth like mine.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself during this journey?
The most surprising thing about this journey is that I am FINALLY comfortable in my own skin. Even in college, when I weighed 10 lbs less, I was never happy with my body. But now, I can truly say I love what my body has become in the last few years, along with every flaw. I love my stretch marks and my mommy pooch, because they are a reminder of the beautiful miracle that was living in my belly for 9 months.
